Problem: Identifying which program created the device.
Solution: Some time ago we started adding standard prefixes to all the device-mapper UUIDs to identify which program created them. For example “LVM-” for LVM2. (The original reason for this was so when libdevmapper walks a tree containing stacked devices – LVM over multipath for example – it would know when to stop.) Different udev rules can run according to the device prefix.
