• Enhance table-changing mechanism to minimise the performance hit from syncing and suspending I/O

• Allow some dm ioctls to be used by non-root users

• Add a netlink-based mechanism for communication with userspace

• Change block layer mapping process to avoid having to split I/O into small pieces unnecessarily

• Allow some ioctls on certain mapped devices to be passed through to the underlying block device

• Optimise for performance
