LVM Background
- LVM is the established standard for linux on-line disk storage management included in 2.4 kernels.
- LVM reached maturity with the 1.0 series with snapshots and the ability to move live volumes.
- LVM2 is a new implementation relying upon a lightweight kernel driver, the Device Mapper.
- The Device Mapper provides generic support for volume managers (including EVMS).  It is included in 2.6 kernels.
