Lock Names

Volume Group lock names are the names of the Volume Groups. When a Volume Group name is provided on the command line of a tool like vgdisplay this means the correct lock for the operation can be obtained immediately without having to examine any metadata.
Logical Volume lock names consist of the internal LVM2 Unique Identifier (UUID) for the Volume Group followed by the UUID for the Logical Volume. This combination is referred to as the LVID.
