Dark Candles rocks my world. They have the weirdest selection of candle fragrances I've ever seen -- dark, goth-y type smells and Halloween themes. They have a set of scents that's supposed to be reminiscent of a graveyard. It is. I mean, where else have you ever seen a candle labeled 'Corpse'? I didn't think so. My current favorites are Crypyt Moss, Coffin, and Black Rose. We'll totally be using these in our house to lend it that particular Hallow's Eve ambiance. And they only come in good colors! I don't think I'll be seeing the inside of a Yankee candle store anymore...

Started work last night on another new site, this one for our annual halloween bash. Am so far planning on sticking with the useful CSS-P and XHTML plan. At the moment, though, still in design phase.

In case you're wondering where I've disappeared to -- I got an X-box for my birthday. Yeah, blasphemy. Shaddup, you.

"Adults sit on their butts with their feet on the floor. Adults don't sit cross-legged or loll around on the floor nearly as much as they should, in my opinion. Adults don't lie on the floor in front of the TV on their stomachs, chins in their hands, kicking their feet up over their backs, watching an I Love Lucy rerun with their mouths literally hanging open. That's a pity."

Note: If you are Tom Lancaster, you should mail me, you twink!

Gonna be slow posting over the next few weeks -- I'm out of work a while and laid up... but the good news is that the birthday fairy brought me an X-box to play with during my recovery. S/he must have known how much being away from Morpheus might upset me, so soon after he was weaned. The Buffy game rocks!

A quiet week -- well aside from all the lawsuits a-flyin', I suppose. But I'm not here to talk about that. Only reason I decided to post was really this article about a Walk-Through Fog Screen which is highly reminiscent of the screens in La Femme Nikita or Minority Report. Way keen.

Ok, this is just cool. Busy day today, what with LinuxWorld and the SCO lawsuit announcement.

Augh, I should not be awake. But the siren's call of the new computer has once again pulled me into the wee hours of the morning. Spent most of the day at the keyboard -- upgraded drivers for both XP and the video card, re-installed my 'usual' collection of fonts, filters, and presets, and set up the series of directories that contain all my active, living projects. Am trying to reorganize all the content -- like cleaning out your closet, if your closet contained practically infinite storage capacity AND everything you've ever worn since the 5th grade. For the first time in years, however, I have room -- enough to sprawl comfortably.

All this required a couple more app-hunts -- an FTP utility that doesn't suck (WSFTP LE didn't please me), PDF reader, some of the plug-ins I hadn't gotten around to setting up. The process gets repeated, once for each partition. Some find it funny that I choose to install XP, to submit to Microsoft as I cash my paycheck from Red Hat. Aye, I reply, it's odd. But it works for me. I can't afford to limit myself to just one technical approach. You never know, this Linux thing might just die out. ; )

For the moment one critical app (games are nice but not crucial, though my mind may change if someone ever took away Black & White) requires that I procure a proprietary OS... and that is of course the beloved Adobe suite -- Photoshop, Illustrator, and the tiny bits. And things like Macromedia's Director, and the workhorses of GD layout, PageMaker and Quark. They work out the kinks for any designer, web or otherwise. They're what a photographer needs. And it's nice just from a desktop perspective, as I'd never be able to make the proper background for Morpheus without 'em. Although I think I might have made that one in the GIMP. I should pick better examples. Oh well. ; )

My birthday is in 10 days, and I just realized I completely forgot about it. Heh.

Two major projects out the door this week, ahead of time (three if you count the fact that the person whose stuff is ALWAYS late was slightly less launch-tardy than usual), and even though I'm still trying to get my new machine to recognize the office network, I do feel some technical progress has been made in my life. Woo. I also discovered that the company that makes my case does sell the clear sidepanel separately. Yes, it really is that important. I shall make a trek back to Intrex over the weekend if I can. I meant to get the sales guy a hat this week and forgot. Whoops.

In world geek news, W3C is keepin' it going on with the new Accessibility Standards. Pretty soon, you'll be able to get the internet on your shoelace, no kidding!

Oif, the pain of early mornings -- hate 'em. But what can you do? However, there is a great SCO paper out today. But that's still not enough reason to be up at this hour. Bah.

Still primarily preoccupied with Morpheus in the evenings. Alice is still my favorite among the new toys, though I had to disappoint her last night in order to finish installing some graphics software and doing a little studying. I finally found some of my favorite fonts over again, and that made me at least reasonably happy.
