Activating a Logical Volume

• Activating an LV requires a few steps.

• • DM_DEV_CREATE reserves a minor number for a new device and assigns a name and optional UUID to it.
  • DM_TABLE_LOAD loads the table into the Inactive slot.
  • DM_SUSPEND without DM_SUSPEND_FLAG makes the previously-loaded Inactive table active. Only now can the device be used. (We call this resuming a device.)

• The first two operations may allocate memory and may be slow, while the third one is designed to be fast.
