• Specify the size of each metadata area with pvcreate --metadatasize. The default size is too small for VGs with lots of LVs or PVs.

• Other pvcreate flags include --restorefile, --labelsector and --setphysicalvolumesize

• Backup and restore metadata using vgcfgbackup / vgcfgrestore. If running pvcreate before restoring something to a new disk, use --restorefile to make sure the metadata created is compatible with what's in the file.

• Metadata changes are atomic – writes new version to disk then updates 'current' pointer.
