I have lived at Spruce Creek for the past 3 years and LOVE it!

We set down a number of criteria that would satisfy both of us before
we wanted to live on an airpark:

1. The residents must own and operate the airport. No closing the
airport out from under us, as has happened in a few instances.

2. Water and sewer must be on a system -- not wells that can go dry or
become contaminated or septic systems that can malfunction and back up
or contaminate the groundwater.

3. It had to be relatively close to civilization -- shopping, theaters,
community colleges. Who wants to drive an hour for a loaf of bread or a
can of paint? Some are beautiful -- but oh, the access!

4. It had to be close to the beach (Arizona is ON the beach, but the
ocean is a LONG ways away).

5. No state income tax!

6. The airpark association had to be big enough to defend itself
against the neighboring Philistines. Some airparks have neighbor
problems and are at the mercy of local governments.

7. It had to have lights and few operational restrictions. Some have
limits on how many takeoffs and landings a resident ma perform during a
week.

That should get you thinking and looking. Get the "Guide Residential
Airparks" (East and West editions) for starters, as they list many
airparks and give a brief synopsis of their facilities.
