Metrics

• Metrics needed to measure whether changes make performance better or worse.

• "Machine feels slower" is not a good metric

• Metric should be based on project goal:

  • number of transactions per second ( handle more customers with same hardware)
  • latency to return a web page (respond more quickly to customer)
  • latency to process data (beat a competitor to a stock trade)
