RHUG is a collection of important open source java packages configured to build to native code with gcj, the GNU Java compiler. Naoko is a subset of the RHUG packages that have been repackaged for eventual inclusion in Red Hat Linux. Naoko basically comprises Ant, Tomcat, and their dependencies.
These packages should work on Shrike, aka Red Hat Linux 9, with the exception of the connector modules mod_jk2 and mod_webapp which will not work with Shrike's httpd. To get around this you can either rebuild the Rawhide httpd rpm on Shrike (try rpmbuild --rebuild httpd-X.Y.Z-W.src.rpm) or rebuild the Naoko tomcat rpm with Shrike's httpd.
Enquiries relating to these packages should be directed to Gary Benson.
Naoko is the name of one of the main characters in the novel Norwegian Wood by Haruki Murakami. If you haven't read it then you should, because it's excellent.
