I gave a presentation at the Red Hat Summit 2006 titled "Building blocks for managing virtualized systems". It covered libvirt, local administration tools (virsh, gnome-applet-vm, gnome-virt-manager), and research and development being done into resource monitoring, event handling, and allocation policy / SLA.
The desktop management application mentioned in these slides has been renamed and is now available as Virtual Machine Manager.
