Locking Types
There is a choice of locking module. It is determined by the 'locking_type' setting in /etc/lvm/lvm.conf.
Single-node LVM2 places locks in the local filesystem, locking_type 1.
Cluster LVM uses locking_type 3.
You can provide your own shared library using locking_type 2. (The standard Cluster LVM locking is also offered in this form.)
In emergency you can disable locking by using locking_type 0.
While booting, Logical Volumes may need to be used before the locking infrastructure is available. A few commands handle this by accepting an --ignorelockingfailure flag.
