Metadata - Label

• By default, pvcreate places the label in the 2nd 512-byte sector

• When scanning for a label, tools check the first 4 sectors

• Begins with string “LABELONE”

• Contains:

  • The sector number. If this is not the sector of the label, the tools ignore it. (Helps reconstruct lost partition table.)
  • Checksum for the label
  • Offset to label data
  • Label type: “LVM2 001”
